Clones 1-09    Latton 2-03

Clones played there 5th league game of the season away to Latton.  In winter like conditions the Clones lads put in a magnificent display to record a very important win which helps keep them pushing for a top four league place.

The Clones team started the game and a blistering pace going a number of points in front midway through the first, as expected the pace of the game slowed due to the heavy ground.  Clones led by pour points at half time but as expected the Latton team came out battling hard, to Clones’s credit they managed to weather the storm and in the final quarter lifted the performance again to record a 3-point win.

The Clones team played collectively very well in tough conditions to grind out this win.

Had a narrow win away to Latton last Thursday evening. They now take a break for the exams.

Donaghmoyne 1-8  Clones 1-8

The Clones under-16 team had their 3rd league game last Friday night (24/4/09) away to Donaghmoyne . This team took part in 2 tough opening league games and this again proved to be no different.

In what proved to be a very tight match throughout it was the Clones team who will feel that it was they who may have dropped the additional point.

Although Donaghmoyne led for long periods, it was Clones who had the better chances to win the game having also had to cope with a few home team decisions not to award penalties with 13metre frees been awarded instead.

But the Clones team can take heart from this performance away from home, as they never gave up with Sub Wayne O’Dowd grabbing an important goal after great work by Kevin Tighe who worked tireless all evening. From that point there would have been only one winner had time now been called.

Best for St. Tiarnach’s were Conan McGonigle, Jake Rehill, Dillon Hibbet and Colm O’Gorman.

Clones Team:

Conon McGonigle, Jake Rehill, Dean Brogan, Shane Brady, James McGlinchey, James Gibson, Dillon Hibbet, Colm O’Gorman, Lee McMahon, Kevin Tighe, Shane Sweeney, David Freeman. Subs David Newell, Cian O’Connor, Wayne O’Dowd (all used).

Next match Friday 1st May. Throw up 6.30pm.

Clones 3-6   Sarsfields 3-6

Clones played there 4th league game on Friday night in St’ Tiarnach’s Park against the Sarsfields team.  Again the under 16’s put on an entertaining yet heart stopping game for the large crowd.  Clones again started slowly which has been one of their downfalls so far this year, but like in previous matches they showed great heart as the they game from 5points down at half time to take a well deserved draw in the end.  Clones also lost midfielder Dillon Hibbet in the first half as a result of two yellows cards, but despite this the players doubled there efforts in the second half to ensure that 2 valuable points were not dropped.

This leave the Clones lads P4 W1 D2 L1 Pts4

The Clones U-16 team continue there quest for a top 4 spot this Thursday evening away to Latton, again all support for the lads would be welcome.

Throw-up 7pm. Players to meet on the diamond 5.45pm sharp.

Well done to the Under 16s on earning a draw with Sarsfields this evening in St Tiarnach’s Park.. The lads had a man sent off in the first half and trailed by 5 points at half time. An early Sarafields goal could have killed the game off, but the Clones lads showed great character to fight back.

The Under 16s play Sarsfields this evening in Clones. The start time of the match has been moved to 6:30.

Put in a great performance last Friday to draw away to Donaghmoyne. With 3 points out of 6 available so far, the lads are keeping well in contention.

Clones played their second league game of the season at home to Killanny on Friday evening (17/4/09).   After an impressive opening league win the Clones Lads were brought  back down to earth.  The first half was very competitive with both teams showing well with some excellent scores from play.  Killanny  had the upper hand though and led 0-8 : 0-3 at half time.  Killanny showed superior fitness in the final quarter of the match as they out scored Clones 3-5 to 1-point to put up a flattering final score line in what was in reality a closely contested game.

Clones Scorers:

David Freeman 0-1, Kevin Tighe 0-1, David Masterson 0-2 & Colm O’Gorman 0-2.

In what is a demanding 13-a-side league the Clones lads can be proud of the effort put in by all players, and look forward to getting back to winning ways this Friday night with an away fixture against Donaghmoyne.

Training continues Wednesday evening at 6pm.
