Clones lost out to Seans in the Dr Ward Cup semi-final last Sunday in St Tiarnach’s Park. In difficult conditions, we got off to a slow start with Seans opening a two point lead after threee minutes. A subsequent Seans attack was broken down which led to a Colm Connolly run setting Declan McKernan through on goal. After sidestepping the last defender, Declan calmly finished to the net to give Clones the lead. The visitors responded well, and a goal after 14 minutes helped them through to a half time lead of 1-5 to 1-3. Clones were up against it in the second half, playing with 14 men against the breeze. They battled well though and points from the excellent Colm Connolly, Adrian Alford, Darragh Holland and Declan McKernan saw them take the lead with ten minutes to go. With the game moving into injury time, Clones still held the lead but three late point from Seans saw them through to the final on a score of Seans 1-11 Clones 1-9. It was a dissapointing end to a season which has seen a great effort from players and management. Thanks to all involved for their hard work throughout the year. Team: Ciarán  Morgan, John Jenkins, Eoin Kelly, Danny Rooney, Micháel Treanor, Darragh Holland (0-1), Patrick McCarville, Fintan Kelly, Ross Adamson, Colm Connolly (0-3), John McDonald, Darragh Graham, Adrian Alford (0-3), Declan McKernan (1-2), Kieran Kierans. The Dr Ward Cup semi-final goes ahead today St 2pm in St Tiarnach’s Parl. Following Currin’s victory over Emyvale yesterday evening, Clones now need to beat Seans today to keep the possibility of promotion alive.
